The Government Schools Education Council (GSEC) represents the peak community consultative forum for Government schooling. The council provides an opportunity for the community to have an important role in formulating advice to Government on school education policy. The Council is established in statute by Section 54 of the Education Act 2004.
The council’s functions are:
- to advise the Minister on budgetary priorities and strategic directions and any other aspect of the ACT Government school system
- to inquire into and give advice to the Minister on any aspect of the ACT Government school system when asked by the Minister
- to meet with the Non-Government Schools Education Council to discuss matters of mutual interest
- to exercise any other function given to the council under Territory law
- to report annually to the Minister on a fiscal year basis.
